SUMTER, S.C. — Police are looking into the shooting death of a 35-year-old man after his body was found along a Sumter street on Sunday morning.
The Sumter Police Department said deputies were initially called to Carver Street after receiving a suspicious person call around 9 a.m. Police said they found Westley Rodregus Vaughn shot multiple times in the 100 block of the road. Police said he was last seen walking from home to a nearby convenience store.
The shooting was one of two reported in less than 12 hours in Sumter. The other happened around 10 p.m. Saturday. Police said they received reports of gunfire when two people were dropped off at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
The victims, one 21 and the other 23 said they were walking in the area of Purdy Street and South Guignard Drive when they were hit by gunfire. They were transferred to a Columbia hospital and are expected to recover, police said.
Police said both incidents are still under investigation, and police are searching for people who may have seen or heard anything in connection to the shootings. Police said they don't know who else was involved in the shootings or whether they're connected.
