Virginia murder suspect arrested in Sumter following police alert on deadly October shooting

He faces felony charges of murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and reckless handling of a firearm.

SUMTER, S.C. — A man wanted for murder in Virginia has been arrested in Sumter, authorities say.

The Sumter Police Department said local law enforcement received details from the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office in Virginia on Thursday regarding a suspect who could be in the area. Police said they spotted a car that matched the suspect vehicle's description around 7 p.m. in the U.S. 76/378 Bypass area. Authorities said 26-year-old Jafay Jabarre Moore was arrested and charged locally as a fugitive from justice pending extradition back to Virginia.

Moore was wanted in connection with a deadly shooting that happened on  Oct. 30 near Yorktown, Virginia. WLTX's sister station, WVEC, reported that he was accused of shooting 19-year-old Elysiah Lee-Jordan twice. Lee-Jordan died at the scene of the shooting, and his sister was also hurt and taken to an area hospital for her injuries.

The York Poquoson Sheriff's Office also confirmed Moore's arrest. It said he would face charges of murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and reckless handling of a firearm -- all felony offenses.
