WINNSBORO, S.C. — The Town of Winnsboro is preparing to do a facelift to its historic Fortune Springs Park.
"The park obviously needs money put into it, and so we have to restore it and restore a fountain and try to bring it back to as close as it was originally designed to look like by Richard Marvin," says mayor John McMeekin.
He says the town was awarded around $420,000 dollars to address storm water drainage problems that left parts of the park falling apart.
"This is to address the storm water problems that we have on the site, as the mayor alluded, the original plan was very opulent it had a lot of water features, that have been essentially covered over, and they didn't work efficiently, to solve the major drainage issues they went ahead and filled it in, so it was a temporary solution in some respects so we're trying to fix that," says assistant town manager, Christopher Clauson.
"It would be dredging the pond, fixing the fountain, and addressing the other marshy areas," Clauson adds.
There is no exact date on when work will begin in the park.
