Sumter County is considering shutting down three schools.
Acting Superintendent Debbie Hamm laid out her proposal Monday night, and her plan would go into effect at the end of the school year.
Under her plan, Mayewood Middle would consolidate with R.E. Davis Elementary, Rafting Creek Elementary would move to Hillcrest Middle School, and F.J. Delaine would combine with Cherryvale Elementary.
Hamm says by making the move, the three larger schools would be able to offer enhanced educational opportunities for students.
This is not a done deal, however; it's still just a proposal.
The public can weigh in on all of this at four upcoming meeting:
Thursday, March 15 - 7 p.m.
Sumter High School Commons Area
