Sumter, SC (WLTX) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says a Sumter officer attempted to unlawfully contact an individual several times.

Alvin Asa Holston, 49, tried to contact the victim about 15 times using phone calls, text messages and Facebook messages after repeatedly being told to have no contact by law enforcement, according to an arrest warrant. On at least one occasion, Holston reportedly used a "spoofing application," which allows a different number to appear on caller identification.

The Sumter Police Department say they placed Holston, a deputy chief, on administrative leave after they were made aware of the SLED investigation Thursday.

He is charged with one count of unlawful communication and has been booked at the Aiken County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.
