News19 Teacher of the Week: Michelle Violet

After 25 years in the classroom, Michelle Violet says she's used to being called Mom!

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — From the moment Michelle Violet turns the key in her classroom's door at Blaney Elementary School in Kershaw County, she knows it's going to be an exciting day.

The veteran educator of 25 years has the pleasure of working with kindergarten students every day, students that she describes as, "full of energy always!" However, when it's time to learn, her students have no problem getting down to business.

Violet says one of the best parts of her job is providing her students with the foundation that will lead to a lifetime of learning. Reading, math and social skills are all key elements of developing as a K5 student. Some of the students in Violet's class are faced with an interesting challenge born out of the pandemic. Because of COVID-19 and the shut down, for some of her students this is the first time they've engaged with other kids, especially if they don't have siblings.

Violet says being a mom of 3 daughters helps her when it comes to understanding what parents want in an educator, and not taking anything too seriously when it comes to her students.
