19-year-old arrested in Harbison Boulevard shooting that happened over summer

Investigators believe the victim was lured to the area and shot in the parking lot of the Rush's restaurant on June 16.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Lexington County deputies have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with a summer shooting outside a Harbison Boulevard restaurant.

According to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, Trennis Lakeith Sumpter Jr. of Blythewood was one of the suspects who lured the victim to a restaurant in the 200 block of Harbison Boulevard on June 16 and shot him in the upper body.

A department spokesperson said the restaurant in question was Rush's.

“Several rounds struck and damaged the restaurant, which was closed when the shooting happened,” Koon said. “The victim drove himself to a hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound. He eventually made a full recovery."

Citing warrants, the sheriff's department said Sumpter is charged with attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Sheriff Koon said the department expects to make more arrests.

Investigators are working to identify and locate other co-defendants who were on the scene and conspired with Sumpter to lure the victim to the parking lot,” he said.

The sheriff's department urges anyone with information about the shooting or other suspects in the case to call Midlands Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or visit the CrimeSC.com website. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
