SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Sumter County deputies are investigating after a 16-year-old was found shot to death in a car along a roadway Tuesday night.
Officers said the shooting took place in the Dalzell community on Sept. 3. The coroner's office said 16-year-old Jayvion Jones of Hampton, Georgia, was found dead around 8:30 p.m. inside a vehicle on Black River Road and Edens Road. Another person was also found with a gunshot wound there and was taken to the hospital. That person is expected to make a full recovery.
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office classified the death as suspicious. They said the investigation is in the initial stages, and every resource available is used to determine what happened.
The coroner's office said the official autopsy will take place Saturday at the Medical University of South Carolina.
