Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The upcoming academic year at The Citadel is starting off with a bang, setting records with its most recent enrollment.
In one of its largest classes yet, The Citadel's Class of 2022 is comprised of 837 cadets recruits: 87 are women, 80 are Hispanic. Cadets not only come from around the U.S. — 37 states in total — they also hail from seven different countries.
The freshman class reported to campus on August 11 as part of the 2,300 cadets training to become part of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. They will all be lead by Cadet Colonel Sarah Zorn, the first female regimental commander in the college’s history.
“The Citadel’s strong enrollment demonstrates that prospective students value the high quality academic environment, structure, discipline and leadership acumen they develop through our values-based educational model,” said Col. John L. Dorrian, vice president for communication and marketing. “These attributes help students who choose our college achieve some of the highest graduation rates, employment rates and salaries in the state.”
