Fairfield County Schools names new superintendent. Here's who they picked

Hemingway is the current Chief Human Resources and Strategic Planning Officer in Clover School District.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Fairfield County School District has a new superintendent.

The Fairfield County District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday night to select Dr. Tony Hemingway as the next Fairfield County School District Superintendent.

“The Fairfield County Board is extremely excited to welcome Dr. Hemmingway to the Fairfield Family," said Fairfield County School Board Chair Mr. Henry Miller in a written statement. "He has a proven track record of successful school and district-level leadership. We look forward to Dr. Hemmingway continuing and building upon the outstanding work currently taking place in the district."

Hemingway is the current Chief Human Resources and Strategic Planning Officer in Clover School District, which is in York County. Previously, he served as the Principal of Larne Elementary School, an Assistant Principal in Crowders Creek Elementary, Larne Elementary, and Kinard Elementary.

He also taught school in the Clover School District, Philadelphia Public Schools, York School District One, and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

Hemingway got a bachelor of science degree from Claflin University in Orangeburg, then went on to earn a Master's degree from Cambridge College and ultimately a doctorate of education from South Carolina State University.

"I am thrilled and excited about the opportunity to continue a rich legacy of excellence and make an impact on the lives of students in Fairfield County," Hemingway said.

He'd been announced as one of five finalists for the job in January.

He'll take over for Dr. J.R. Green, who announced last June he would retire from the district after leading it for 11 years.
