Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Tropical Storm Cindy gained strength late Tuesday night, it is still moving towards the gulf coast.
Cindy was about 230 miles south of Morgan City, Louisiana at 11 PM Tuesday. It gained some strength late Tuesday, but it is expected to weaken gradually as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico.
The storm had winds of 60 mph with gusts up to 70 mph late Tuesday night. It was moving towards the northwest at 7 mph.
A tropical storm warning is in effect from San Luis Pass, Texas to the Alabama-Florida border. This does include the New Orleans area.
Heavy rainfall is a big threat from Cindy. Flash flood warnings cover parts of southeastern Texas to the the Alabama coast. Some areas are expecting over 12" of rain from the storm.
