Columbia, SC (WLTX) Five Points is a key location for student at the University of South Carolina. It features local shops, restaurants an at night several bars and clubs.
But recently two of the bars were denied liquor licenses.
The South Carolina administrative law court judge denied the liquor license for the Five Points bars based on the grounds it's a nuisance to the community and has problems with under age drinking and violence.
The location of the Five Points Roost is no stranger to the community under previous ownership law enforcement was called to the building more than 600 times in the last ten years.
At the beginning of the year, the new owner was denied a beer and wine and resturant liquor license for several reasons according to officials. University officials stated that 40% of the almost 300 students hospitalized got drunk in Five Points. Most were under age.
Community leaders, university officials and law enforcement identify a problem with the area and are hoping the denial sends a clear message.
