COLUMBIA, S.C. — Another year, another top ranking for these Midlands high schools.
Dreher and A.C. Flora were featured in this year's U.S. News & World Report "Best High School" list. The Richland District One schools both made their way into the Top 15 high schools in South Carolina.
A.C. Flora was ranked 15th with a 87 percent graduation rate and the highest number of International Baccalaureate recipients in the state. While Dreher came in at No. 7 with a 90 percent graduation rate.
Both schools offer Advanced Placement courses and programs, but A.C. Flora did see a 30 percent increase in the number of students who passed the AP English exams.
The principals of these top schools say the rankings are a result of a team effort within the school and community.
“The Dreher family is again honored and humbled to receive the U.S. News & World Report award, which is a testament to the high expectations and dedication of our students, staff, district and community,” said Jeanne Stiglbauer, principal at Dreher.
“We are delighted to be recognized as a top high school in the U.S. News rankings," said A.C. Flora Principal Susan Childs. "The dedication of our teachers, the support of our parents and community, and the hard work of our students allow A.C. Flora to excel.”
Three schools from Lexington-Richland District 5 also cracked the Top 15 in South Carolina: Spring Hill High was 3rd, Dutch Fork High was 12th and Chapin High was 13th.
