COLUMBIA, S.C. — Two people were injured after a house fire that broke out on Beaver Brook Road on Friday.
Columbia firefighters received the call around 11 a.m. Friday, with reports of heavy smoke and flames engulfing the home.
According to officials, one person was found in a rear bedroom. Firefighters managed to safely get them out through a window. Another person sustained only minor injuries.
News19 spoke with neighbors who knew the people in the home, who say the family lived there for over 40 years.
"I lived in their house also, back in the 80s," neighbor Felicia Bethel said.
“Its so sad to see this," said neighbor Valerie Jones. "We used to play in this house with their kids and all the kids from school used to play in this house."
The Richland County Coroner’s Office was also called to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
