COLUMBIA, S.C. — Authorities say a two-story house in the Five Points area is a total loss following a Sunday afternoon fire.

Chief Aubrey Jenkins with the Columbia-Richland Fire Department said the fire started just before 7 p.m. at a home in the area of Pine and Pendleton streets. The home, which was boarded up at the time, was undergoing unspecified work.

The fire grew to be so intense at one point that all crews were ordered out due to dangerous conditions such as wall collapses. No known injuries were reported.

Chief Jenkins said an investigator has been called in to investigate the fire, which he described as suspicious since the building had no power at the time.

As of about 7:30 p.m., the fire was considered under control. Between seven and eight units responded.
