Richland County mosque vandalized with hate symbols, investigation underway

Deputies said the mosque had been spray-painted with symbols and messages, including a swastika and the message, "get out."

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County deputies are investigating after a local mosque was found vandalized on Friday.

On the morning of Nov. 22, deputies say they responded to a case of vandalism at the Muhammed Mosque, located at 5646 Farrow Road. Deputies arrived on the scene around 10:00 a.m. after receiving a report of the incident.

When they got there, law enforcement officials discovered the mosque had been spray-painted with symbols and messages, including a swastika and the message, "get out." 

Deputies are working to identify the individual or individuals responsible for the act and are asking the community for any information that may assist in the case.

As a precaution, the Sheriff's Department has informed local mosques and synagogues about the incident and has promised increased patrols around religious sites throughout Richland County to ensure the safety of all worshippers and community members.
