COLUMBIA, S.C. — With wind chill temperatures expected to plummet to near zero in South Carolina this week, many Midlands cities and counties are opening up warming shelters for those in need.
Here's a list of the warming shelters we know of so far. Check back for updates as we get more information.
Fairfield County

Fairfield Central High School

Residents experiencing power outages can seek shelter and recharge devices on Saturday, Dec. 24 from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Lexington County
Radius Church at White Knoll - Gym
5181 Platt Springs Rd, Lexington
The warming center will be open Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The church is providing access to showers, food, clothing, blessing bags, and stockings in addition for warm shelter.
Newberry County
O'Neal Street United Methodist Church
501 O'Neal Street, Newberry
The center will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Friday through Sunday. Pets are welcome, leashed, and preferably in a cage or a carrier due to possible allergies.
Orangeburg County
Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Lobby
1320 Middleton Street, Orangeburg
Open Friday, Dec. 23 from 4 p.m. through 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25
Richland County
Inclement Weather Center
191 Calhoun Street, Columbia
The Inclement Weather Center provides meals and shelter on nights when the temperature drops to 40 degrees or below. Signs indicating whether the center is opened or closed are posted outside of Transitions, City Hall, and the Richland Library.
Guests must arrive at the Inclement Weather Center by Comet Bus. Evening pick-up runs from 5:45 pm-7:00 pm at Comet Central (1745 Sumter St., Columbia, SC 29201). Morning drop-off runs from 6:30 am-7:30 am at the IWC (191 Calhoun Street).
Sumter County
Church of the Holy Comforter (Sumter United Ministries)
213 N. Main Street, Sumter
Open on nights the temperature drops below 40 degrees. A sign will be placed on the church door to inform people if the shelter will be opened or closed that day.
We have reached out to and are awaiting response from Calhoun County, Clarendon County, Kershaw County, Lexington County, Lee County, Newberry County and Saluda County.
