Columbia will lose a unique restaurant when White Duck Taco Shop closes in a couple of weeks.
Store owner Joe Ellis said that it came down to financial reasons that the taco shop, famous for fresh, unique ingredients, will shutter the doors on December 23.
Ben Mixon founded White Duck in Asheville in 2011. The restaurant's name is a variation of his wife's nickname given to her by the Asheville kitchen staff.
Mixon opened the Columbia location at The Mills on Whaley Street three years ago. The restaurant was known for using fresh and interesting combinations of ingredients such as pork belly and watermelon, mole roasted duck, and Bangkok shrimp.
Ellis said that the decision was a hard one, especially this time of year.
White Duck Taco Shop employed 15 people.
