Lexington, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County officials now say a malfunctioning heating and air conditioning unit led to an evacuation at White Knoll High School Thursday.
Lexington hazardous materials crews responded to the school in the afternoon after a smell of gas in the building. As a precaution, all students were taken outside.
Lexington School District One says all students are fine.
Eventually the district said the problem was with the HVAC system, but there was no actual gas detected in the building.
Students were taken to the football field so they could be picked up. That caused a little bit of a slowdown in dismissal.
