COLUMBIA, S.C. — Not to worry, Big DM listeners -- the longtime Midlands radio station is back on the air for most listeners.

Many loyal listeners reached out to News 19 when they couldn't tune the station in over the last week or so. Turns out, lightning damage to the transmission tower appears to be the culprit.

"Looks like we took a lightning strike a couple weeks ago," says Mike Hartel with Alpha Media here in Columbia. Hartel says crews are working to make repairs out at the tower, where the transmission line is shredded in several places.

"We are back on the air as of yesterday afternoon, but still not at 100% power," say Hartel, who assures listeners they are working hard to return transmission to normal for all listeners as quickly as possible. "As you can imagine, it has been an incredibly frustrating experience for our listeners and everyone here."

If you are not able to tune the station in just yet, you can always tune in via livestream on The Big DM website.
