Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The YMCA will have a new location in downtown Columbia, and will open the new facility in the early part of next year.
The new YMCA will be at the corner of Bull Street and Hampton Street. It's set begin services in the spring of 2016.
"Our new Downtown YMCA will enable us to better support the people and neighborhoods that need it most by addressing many of our community's most critical issues with a state-of-the-art facility to deliver programs like LIVESTRONG at the YMCA and the YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program," said Bryan Madden, Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Columbia. "Now that the location selection process is complete, we look forward to the next phases of design and construction."
Their current location is in the 1400 block of Sumter Street, so the new location will only be about two blocks from where they are now.
The YMCA in downtown was one of the first 50 locations for the organization in the United States.
