'Devastating loss' | Company issues statement on Zeus employee who died in workplace accident

The company said McCormick worked as a maintenance technician at the facility.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Zeus Industrial Products says they are grieving the death of an employee who died during a workplace incident last week.

Timothy McCormick, 56, was injured at the company's plant near Gaston on June 24. He died two days later at the hospital.

"We are profoundly saddened by the passing of one of our valued team members following a workplace incident," a spokesperson for the company told News19.

The company said McCormick worked as a maintenance technician at the facility, which is located on 15th Street in Calhoun County, just off Interstate 26. Calhoun County Coroner Donnie Porth said EMS received a call about an accident at the plant around 1 a.m. on June 24. The company described the incident as a "serious electrical accident."

Porth said EMS responded to the scene and were able to revive McCormick and take him to Lexington Medical Center for treatment. McCormick died two days later, however.

"Our hearts go out to the McCormick family, friends, and colleagues grieving this devastating loss," the company said. "We are committed to supporting them through this difficult time. Counseling services are being offered to our team members who have been affected by this tragedy. We ask for privacy during this time of mourning."

The company said it's conducted an extended review of the incident and enhanced its safety protocols to prevent future occurrences. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) told News19 it is also investigating and will take six to eight weeks to conduct its probe.
