SC resident scores $150,000 in Powerball lottery

The lucky winner matched four of the regular numbers and the Powerball number. They also multiplied their winnings by three by using the PowerPlay option.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — One South Carolina resident has won $150,000 courtesy of the Powerball lottery.

The winning numbers were drawn Wednesday night and one person's ticket matched 4-out-of-5 of the regular numbers and the Powerball number. Normally that means a player would win $50,000 but this player chose to by the PowerPlay option.

Any lottery player can upgrade their Powerball ticket using a PowerPlay option for an additional $1. That means that their prize would be multiplied by the PowerPlay number of 2, 3, 4 or 5.

In this case, the PowerPlay number was 3, which means that the lucky winner's prize money increases from $50,000 to $150,000.

Here are the winning numbers from Wednesday night's drawing:
7 - 9 - 26 - 44 - 68 with the Powerball number 3.

The next Powerball drawing is Saturday, July 13 and the jackpot was at an estimated at $194 million as of Thursday morning.
