MANNING, S.C. — A South Carolina man decided cutting the grass could wait another day after a scratch-off ticket netted him a pretty hefty cash prize recently.
The South Carolina Education Lottery announced on Thursday that the man scratched off a $5 Bonus Star Bonanza card and beat 1-in-720,000 odds to win $200,000.
He told lottery officials that he had won $5 or $10 before but added "this beats those."
Up until then, it appeared to be a somewhat ordinary day of yard work for the winner, who said he scratched the ticket while sitting outside and getting ready to cut the grass.
"It was a real thrill," he said.
The agency didn't publicly identify the man or his plans for the money. But he did put off cutting grass for the day as a result.
The winning Bonus Star Bonanza scratch-off was sold at Corner Pantry #148 on W. Boyce Street in Manning. As a result, that store will also get a $2,000 commission.
Meanwhile, the South Carolina Education Lottery suggests that three top prizes of $200,000 at the same odds are still available in this $5 game.
