Men Charged in Grocery Store Employees Death

More than a year after a Cayce woman was shot to death inside a Cayce grocery store, three men have been charged in connection with the woman's murder.

More than a year after a Cayce woman was shot to death inside a Cayce grocery store, three men have been charged in connection with the woman's murder.During a Monday news conference, Cayce Public Safety Chief Charles McNair announced that investigators from the department had taken into custody the following individuals: John Willie Sutton, 21, of 175 Howe Street, Columbia; Marshall Mack, 24, of 2135 Capitol View Road, Gaston; and Courtney Sharif Geiger, 20, of Route 161, Pine Plains Road, Gaston. All three men are detained on charges of Murder, Armed Robbery, Criminal Conspiracy, and the use of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.On November 30, 2001, two men entered the Piggly Wiggly grocery store, located at 3040 Charleston Highway, and opened fire with two handguns. Two employees in the store, one of whom was a juvenile, were struck by bullets. One of the employees, Merry J. Shivers, died at the crime scene. After firing their weapons, the two men fled the scene with money from the store's safe.Chief McNair is recommending to the Solicitor's Office that the death penalty be sought on the individuals involved in this crime.
