Columbia (WLTX) - A mistrial has been declared in the trial of a man accused of killing a USC student.The jury could not reach a verdict in the case of 32-year-old Mark Richardson.Richardson was accused of killing 25-year-old Shelton Sanders in 2001. Sanders's body was never found. The two were roommates.Deputies say Richardson shot Sanders on the night he disappeared at a residence on Olympia Avenue in Columbia. Prosecutors also say witnesses told them that Richardson had expressed a desire to murder one of his friends.Sanders was the son of a prominent former magistrate in Sumter County, William Sanders.There's no word yet on a retrial.
