BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore police say a man who confessed to his South Carolina girlfriend's murder smashed a hospital window where he was being evaluated for chest pains and jumped ten stories to his death.Police say 27-year-old Damon Smith died Sunday at Mercy Medical Center, shortly after he slipped out of handcuffs, struggled with an officer and jumped.Maryland State Police had arrested Smith on Friday after a wreck. That was about four hours after college student Veronica Fludd, of Summerton, was found stabbed to death in the home of her aunt and uncle. Police say Smith had self-inflicted wounds when he was arrested.They say Smith confessed Saturday after he was transferred to their custody.
