Cool photos from the 2016 Farnborough Airshow

The weeklong Farnborough International Airshow is now underway just outside London.

The weeklong Farnborough International Airshow is now underway just outside London.

The event, which alternates annually with its sister show in Paris, is one of the most important events in aviation. The show focuses on business through Friday, when it then opens up to a general audience.

DAY 1 RECAP: News and highlights from the show's opening day

Industry observers keep a close watch on news from the show, where aircraft makers like Boeing and Airbus often announce big plane orders from airline customers.

Many feel that the show’s signature event is the flying aerial display schedule that continues all week long. The often-acrobatic displays feature aircraft ranging from the massive Airbus A380 to nimble military aircraft.

This year’s 2016 show in Farnborough is also expected to pay homage to the history of U.S. jetmaker Boeing, which coincidentally will celebrate its 100th anniversary during the show

The shows in London and Parris attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, many who come just to gawk at the aerial routines and myriad aircraft on display on the ground.

If you’re not in England this year to see it yourself, you can live vicariously through this post. We’ll update it each day (and throughout the day) with a collection of photos from the show.

Enjoy!
