Solar eclipse looks like an eye in space

Sure, we know what a solar eclipse looks like from down here on Earth. But a wild NASA montage photo shows what last month's total solar eclipse "looked like" both from Earth and from space.

According to NASA, the innermost image shows the total eclipse as seen from the Earth, with the central "pupil" created by the bright sun covered by a dark moon.

Surrounding the blocked sun is the sun's corona, which is visible from the ground only during an eclipse. Normally, this corona is hard to track far from the sun, but this photo montage includes an image taken from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory spacecraft, which is in orbit around the sun.

The image was taken on March 9 as the moon passed directly between the Earth and the sun.

Is it just me, or does it remind you of the eye of Sauron from the Lord of the Rings
