WASHINGTON — Hooters has closed dozens of locations across the country.
The Atlanta-based casual dining chain cited "pressure from current market conditions" for why it made the decision to close several "underperforming stores."
The company wouldn't say exactly how many stores had closed and didn't release a list of locations.
However, there are 41 locations across the U.S. no longer listed on the Hooters website that had been there in mid-January. Each of those locations are listed as "permanently closed" on Google and their respective social media accounts were shut down.
The locations are spread across 14 states, with Texas having the most store closings by far: Texas has 16, while most of the other states have only a handful each.
Several local news reports indicate many of these locations abruptly closed this weekend, while some may have closed over the past few months.
Hooters is just the latest chain to abruptly close several locations this spring. Last month, Red Lobster closed more than 90 locations before filing for bankruptcy.
Despite the latest closures, Hooters said its 41-year-old brand "remains highly resilient and relevant."
"We look forward to continuing to serve our guests at home, on the go and at our restaurants here in the U.S. and around the globe," the company stated.
