NEW YORK — One lucky lottery player in Illinois woke up $560 million richer, after winning the Mega Millions jackpot.
Tuesday's drawing was for the ninth-largest prize in the game's history. The winner had to guess all six numbers correctly: five white ball numbers and a sixth, gold Mega Ball.
Two other players, one in California and the other in Maryland, will each get $1 million for matching all five white ball numbers.
The winning numbers for Tuesday's $560 million Mega Millions drawing were 19-37-40-63-69 Mega Ball: 17 with a Megaplier of 3.
The cash option for Tuesday's drawing was worth $264 million.
According to the Illinois lottery, Tuesday's jackpot winner purchased the ticket online. Illinois is one of nine states and the District of Columbia that offers ways to purchase Mega Millions tickets online or through their lottery's mobile app.
The identity of the winner is still unknown, and it's unclear if they'll take the cash payout.
This year has already seen two billion-dollar lottery jackpot winners. One lucky ticket in New Jersey won a $1.13 billion Mega Millions jackpot in March, and a Powerball ticket in Oregon hit the jackpot worth more than $1.3 billion in April.
Mega Millions hadn't seen a jackpot winner since the $1.13 billion jackpot winner in March.
Now that the jackpot has been won, the prize is back down to $20 million for Friday's drawing.
The odds of winning the jackpot are one in 302,575,350.
