Small plane crashes into home near Chicago's Midway airport Tuesday, according to CBS News.

Chicago police confirmed early Tuesday that they had received word of a small single engine plane crashing into a home.

There was no immediate information on the cause of the crash or the condition of the people who were aboard the plane.

Franz Velez of the Chicago Fire Department told CBS News one person was believed to have been on the plane when it crashed. Search and rescue was underway to find that individual.

Residents of the home, a senior man and woman, were found safe.

The plane crashed after taking off from Chicago Midway International Airport, about eight miles southwest of downtown Chicago.

An official with the Federal Aviation Administration told CBS News the plane's pilot reported engine problems shortly after departing Midway. The pilot requested a return to Midway, but crashed one quarter mile from the runway.

The plane had been en route to Chicago Executive Airport.
