ARLINGTON, Texas — A man is accused of shooting a person attempting to rob him of his rare coins in an Arlington mall parking lot, police said.
Officers responded to a call for service around 6:35 p.m. Saturday to a parking lot near the Parks Mall in Arlington, police said in a statement.
Edgar Ipina, 23, placed the call and told officers he was robbed and shot at the suspect as they were running away. Ipina was selling rare coins online and arranged to meet with a buyer in the parking lot, according to police. When Ipina showed the buyer the coins, the man grabbed them and ran without paying, police said.
Ipina fired multiple shots as the buyer got into a car and drove away, police said. A man matching the description of the buyer, who was later identified as 34-year-old Booker Ross, later arrived at Fort Worth hospital with several non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, police said.
Because Ross was unarmed and not threatening, Ipina was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, police said. When Ross is released from the hospital he will be booked and charged with Theft from Person, police said.
Mall operations were not impacted by the shooting and there were no reports of any injuries to people at the mall or in the parking lot, police said.
