Ohio woman who went on camping trip to Alabama reported missing

Alabama authorities are now searching the surrounding area in an effort to find Rose.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Marysville woman was reported missing after authorities say she embarked on a camping trip to Alabama nearly two weeks ago.

According to the City of Marysville, Vendula (Wendy) Rose has not been seen since Sept. 24. She was supposed to return home from her camping trip on Oct. 2.

The silver Honda Accord that Rose had driven to Alabama was found in the parking lot of Cheaha State Park by the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office.

Alabama authorities are now searching the surrounding area in an effort to find Rose.

On Oct. 8, the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office provided a timeline of Rose's whereabouts and additional information they gathered in their investigation.

The sheriff's office said they have no evidence that would lead them to believe that foul play is suspected. They also believe Rose is suffering from a mental health crisis.

In the timeline of events posted by the sheriff's office, Rose reportedly spoke with family and friends about the camping trip prior to Sept. 20 and spoke to them about leaving some of her personal belongings in a safe deposit box at her bank. She also left her work keys with her employer.

She left on Sept. 20, and traveled to Duggar Mountain in Alabama, hiking a portion of the Pinhoti Trail.

She left Alabama three days later and went to South Carolina, arriving there early Sept. 24. She then traveled back to Cleburne County in Alabama that evening and went to Oxford where authorities confirmed that Rose made a purchase at a business.

Rose then went to Cheaha State Park later on Sept. 24 where her vehicle was found parked.

Her employer reported that she did not return to work as scheduled on Oct. 4.

The sheriff's office processed the contents of her car on Oct. 7 and found multiple notes that were deemed abnormal for Rose. A magazine, as well as a box of ammunition missing seven rounds, was also found inside the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing and the Marysville Police Division is working closely with authorities in Alabama to assist in the search.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact Officer Curtis Wyckoff at cwyckoff@marysvilleohio.org.
