Fort Jackson drill sergeant found unresponsive at off-post residence

34-year-old was with the Army's 4th Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A 34-year-old drill sergeant at Fort Jackson has been reported dead after being found unresponsive at his off-post residence.

Staff Sgt. Corey R. Brown, from 4th Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment, was found at his home on Sunday, July 28. Brown is originally from High Point, North Carolina. He served for more than 13 years in the US Army and has been awarded and decorated numerous times over his career, including: the Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (7), Army Good Conduct Medal (4), and the National Defense Service Medal.

Brown's cause of death is undetermined, Fort Jackson is cooperating with the investigation.
