Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Fort Jackson is hosting drill sergeants and AIT platoon Sergeants from around the country to find the best of the best.

The four day competition challenges the soldiers physically and mentally through a series of tests ranging from uniform inspections to obstacle courses.  Fort Jackson's own drill sergeant, Eric Hulien, is competing in the event.

He says the competition tests your ability to teach cadets under the harshest conditions.

"The reason that they do that, you know, put that physical and mental anguish on you basically to just continue to see how you'll perform throughout the time of the entire competition," Hulien said. "I think I started off a little slow.  But then the next day when we started out I feel like things got a little better."

Winners will be announced tomorrow night at 6 at the Solomon Center on Fort Jackson.
