PHOENIX — A Scottsdale-born football player for the Baltimore Ravens reportedly helped to assist a woman suffering from a medical episode during a flight to Phoenix Thursday morning.
Mark Andrews, who played football for Desert Mountain High School, was seen providing assistance to a woman experiencing a medical emergency after he suggested checking her blood sugar and provided a testing kit, according to another flight passenger who recalled their experience on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Andrews, who was signed by the Ravens in 2018, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a child and often checks his blood sugar during football practice, according to ESPN.
In a statement released by the Ravens, Andrews said the "real heroes are the nurse and doctor who also happened to be on the plane."
Southwest Airlines confirmed in a statement that medical personnel had to respond Thursday morning to a plane that landed in Phoenix.
"Because of Customer privacy policies we are not able to share additional details, though as always, we are appreciative of the efforts of our Crew, medical personnel, and fellow Customers who assist others during these inflight situations," Southwest Airlines wrote in a statement.
