COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Federal regulators are holding a public meeting to discuss activity at one of South Carolina's nuclear plants.
Officials from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission are holding an open house at the Hartsville Public Library on Wednesday. They will be talking about performance at Duke Energy's H.B. Robinson plant.
In September, agency officials said they would be doing increased oversight for a time at the facility near Hartsville after several issues, including the shutdown of a diesel generator after radiator fan belts failed. No workers or nearby residents were in danger, but officials said the belts were so degraded and poorly maintained that the generator couldn't have been used properly if necessary, such as during a power loss or fire.
The NRC says Robinson has gotten good marks in recent inspections.
