COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina officials have recovered the body of the 30-year-old pilot killed along with his father in the collision of their private plane with an Air Force F-16 fighter jet earlier this week.
Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury says autopsies on Joseph Johnson and his 68-year-old father, Michael Johnson, are being conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina in nearby Charleston.
Salisbury says both bodies were recovered from the Cooper River. He says the father's body was found Wednesday morning, and the son's was recovered by divers later Wednesday.
The two died when their Cessna 150 collided Tuesday with the fighter jet.
The jet was flown by Maj. Aaron Johnson, who ejected safely following the crash. He was flying out of Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter.
