After six years, Cayce city manager steps down from her job

Tracy Hegler and the Cayce City Council signed a mutual separation agreement during the July 17 meeting.

CAYCE, S.C. — Cayce City Manager Tracy Hegler and council members signed a mutual separation agreement on Wednesday, ending Hegler's term in that position after six years.

“Tracy has led our staff in a way that grew our culture of customer service," Cayce Mayor Elise Partin said. "She created a place that drew great new employees and kept our phenomenal ones. She has been leading during a time when we are down two key department heads: our Police Chief, who just departed for a new position, and our Director of Utilities, who is recovering from a serious automobile accident."

Hegler was the director of community planning and development for Richland County before coming to Cayce in 2018. During her tenure, Hegler saw several events that directly impacted the city, including:

  • the tragic murder of Officer Drew Barr
  • the disappearance and death of 6-year-old Faye Swetlik
  • completion of a $23 million waterline replacement project
  • development of the Cayce River Arts District
  • successful split the Public Safety Department into dedicated police and fire departments

Other city officials highlighted Hegler's talents, which helped the city through many of these moments.

“There is no one that can pull a team together like Tracy Hegler," Mayor Pro Tem Tim James said. "When it comes to her extensive knowledge of zoning and ordinances, Tracy is the best I have ever worked with.”

Hegler's last day on the job will be Friday, July 19.
