COLUMBIA, S.C. — In a last-minute change of travel plans, the Vice President of the United States will be traveling to Columbia this morning to file paperwork for the 2024 presidential election.
Vice President Kamala Harris will be joining Rep. Jim Clyburn at the headquarters of the South Carolina Democratic Party in downtown Columbia to submit the official paperwork for the Biden-Harris 2024 campaign.
South Carolina's Democratic primary will be the first in the nation in 2024. After the official filing, Harris will join Clyburn and deliver remarks on what is at stake in the 2024 election.
Biden and Clyburn have a long history together, having served in Congress together for more than a decade. In 2020, Clyburn endorsed Joe Biden in the Democratic presidential race, which many say reinvigorated Biden's candidacy. At the time, Clyburn, the highest-ranking Black member of Congress and kingmaker in SC Democratic politics, said he could think of no one "more committed to the fundamental principles that make this country what it is" than his "good friend" Biden.
Harris is expected to arrive at Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) around 9:25 a.m. and head to SCDP headquarters. She will depart from CAE around 11:10 a.m.
The trip was teased by Harris on social media yesterday when she posted, "South Carolina Democrats are the backbone of the Democratic Party. @ClyburnSC06, got room for one more?"
Before that post on X, the White House daily guidance for the Vice President listed her as being in Washington and no public events scheduled.
