(WLTX) - — South Carolina will hold its primary elections on Tuesday, June 12, and arguably the biggest of those contests will be the ones for South Carolina governor.
A total of eight candidates--three Democrats and five Republicans--will be vying for their respective party's nominations.
Among them is incumbent Gov. Henry McMaster. The Republican is seeking his first electoral win as the leader of the state, after being promoted into the position after former Gov. Nikki Haley left in January of 2017 to become the U.N. Ambassador to the United Nations. At the time, McMaster was the lieutenant governor.
On the other side, Democrats are hoping to elect someone who can put a member of their party in the governor's mansion for the first time since Jim Hodges left office in early 2003.
As part of our commitment to our viewers to be On Your Side to make an informed choice, we invited all of the candidates for an extended, one-on-one interview. The candidates were allowed to answer our questions with responses that were as long as they wanted. You can see their answers in the video segments below.
Editor's note: News19 did attempt to contact Yancey McGill's campaign several times to set up an interview, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
