COLUMBIA, S.C. — On Wednesday afternoon, the Public Service Commission (PSC) approved petitions to intervene in Blue Granite Water Company's request to raise rates.
Petitions were filed on behalf of the Town of Irmo, York County, as well as other individuals.
The PSC was very brief with their vote on Wednesday.
Blue Granite applied for a rate increase in September of 2019.
Since the proposed rate increase was announced, there has been push back from rate payers, many who are concerned with the amount of the potential increase.
Blue Granite proposed increasing water rates by 45 percent and sewer rates by 55 percent.
Potential testimony can take place during an upcoming PSC hearing on February 26, 2020 at 10 a.m.
