$90 for a 7-Foot Christmas tree? Here's how to save this holiday season

Real trees cost up to about $13 per foot, but when you buy can make a big difference.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — With the holiday season now in full swing, a lot of people are getting ready to put their Christmas trees up.

According to PickYourOwnChristmasTree.org for every foot of a real tree this year you’ll pay up to $13 depending on the type. That puts a real 7 foot tree around $90.

If you want to save on a tree the best time to buy is later in December prices drop as most people already have a tree up. But if you want to put one up early, it’s best to buy this week before real tree prices spike around Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Just make sure to keep it properly watered all season long to avoid fire danger.

Also, when you’re shopping, now is a good time to support Western North Carolina. Some of the tree farms up there faced widespread damage after Hurricane Helene. Take Greg Avery’s farm in Avery County for example. By the time the water receded, sixty to eighty thousands of his trees were destroyed. And what the floods left behind made it even worse. invasive plants poisoning fertile land.

Farmers like him are asking people who normally put up an artificial tree this year to consider a real one from North Carolina. They say money from your purchases this year can help them start to replant the farms and repair the damage.
