Women killed in Upstate South Carolina shooting identified; suspect found dead in state park

Authorities believe the murders occurred on Saturday afternoon. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found two women dead.

MAULDIN, S.C. — The Greenville County Coroner's Office has released the names of two women who were found dead after Mauldin Police responded to a report of gunfire at an apartment complex on Saturday evening.

Officers responded to Arbors at Brookfield Apartments around 6 p.m. regarding reports of gunfire. They arrived to find two women, identified by Coroner Parks Evans as 41-year-old Mariellen Bessent Minor and 52-year-old Kim Melissa Thrift, dead of gunshot wounds.

Police were looking for Christopher Minor in connection to the double homicide but said he was found dead in McCormick County around 10 a.m. Authorities said his body was found next to a lake at Baker Creek State Park by park rangers who first spotted his unoccupied vehicle and searched the area nearby.

Based on the information gathered, police believed the incident was "domestic in nature."
