Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Former Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott has been hired by the Richland County Sheriff Department, just nine days after announcing his resignation from his old job.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lottconfirmed Wednesday Scott will be an inspector with his department, and will start his new job on May 13th. Lott said in a statement that Scott's previous experience with his department will be invaluable.
Scott will hold the rank of inspector and will be assigned to work with the community and to further develop the agency's leadership training program.
In an interview last month with News19, Lott said Scott would "always have a home at the Richland County Sheriff's Department. It's where he started his career and he was very successful with that and if he wants to come back then we'll welcome him back."

During an emotional press conference, Scottrevealed he suffered from post traumatic stress disorder, a condition he believes was caused by anguish over the 2005death of a deputy under his command. At the time, Scott was a senior officer within the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
Prior to his announcement, Scott had been on an indefinite leave of absence. It was during his time away that he says he received counseling, and realized the impact the deputy's death had on him.
Lott said Scottwill start at the department making $40,000 per year. He said thestarting salary for a person with no experience is $35,000.
Scott earned $112,000 a year as Columbia Police Chief.
