HORRY COUNTY, S.C. — A seemingly innocent Tinder meet-up became an armed robbery after things took a violent turn.
The victim and 38-year-old Kevin James Doyle met at a bar after matching on Tinder. Upon arrival, Doyle reportedly pulled out a knife and robbed the victim.
As Doyle drove away, the victim recorded the suspect's vehicle and called the Horry County Police Department. That car was found at the Vinings at Market Commons apartment complex in Horry County, where Doyle and another suspect were found inside.
A standoff ensued when one suspect refused to surrender. However, both were ultimately arrested.
Doyle is charged with armed robbery. Colin Stuart Turnnidge III, 24, was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to a felony.
Police would like remind people to exercise caution and use these tips when it comes to meeting through social media:
- Think before sharing personal information
- Do research on the person you're meeting
- Meet in a well-populated, highly-visible place
- Tell someone where you’ll be, and who you’re with
- Drive yourself to and from the location
- Stay sober
