Sumter, SC (WLTX) Three men have been arrested after an apparent home burglary Thursday.
According to Braden Bunch with the Sumter Sheriff's department, shortly after 11 AM, deputies were notified of a home burglary on King's Mountain road. The homeowner had surveillance equipment installed and was able to give investigators detailed information about the suspects as well as they vehicle that they were traveling in.
Deputies then stopped a vehicle matching the description of the alleged burglars on Broad Street Extension; however, officers say one of the suspects, 21-year-old Jerry Washington, ran out of the car and into a wooded area. The two other passengers, 21-year-ol Fredderick McBride and 20-year-old Domonique McBride were taken into custody. They are being charged with burglary-second degree and are being held at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention center awaiting bond hearings.
Additional officers were called in to search for the suspect who ran from officers. More than 20 officers including K9 units were involved in the search. A South Carolina Law Enforcement Division helicopter assisted as well.
About two hours into the search, officers found Washington in a heavily wooded area near Eagle Road, almost a mile from the original traffic stop. He is also being charged with burglary-second degree.
The incident remains under investigation and more charges and arrests are possible, according to deputies.
