Columbia, SC (WLTX) Tuesday night, WLTX anchor Andrea Mock stepped up and took one on the, well, head for ALS.
Mock was doused with cold water and of course, ice, as part of the Ice Bucket Challenge that's swept across the nation. She was nominated on Monday by the owners of the Columbia store, Revente.
Mock went online to ALS earlier in the day to donate and reminded everyone that the challenge is about raising money to medical research, as there is no cure for ALS also known as Lou Gerigs disease.
She joins good company that includes WLTX's anchor Lionel Moise, weatherman Daniel Bonds, and USC head football coach Steve Spurrier.
As of Tuesday, August 19 the ALS Association has received $22.9 million in donations. Last year at the same time the association had raised $1.9 million.
"Our top priority right now is acknowledging all the gifts made by donors to The ALS Association," said Barbara Newhouse, President and CEO of The ALS Association. "We want to be the best stewards of this incredible influx of support. To do that, we need to be strategic in our decision making as to how the funds will be spent so that when people look back on this event in ten and twenty years, the Ice Bucket Challenge will be seen as a real game-changer for ALS," she continued.
