LEXINGTON (AP) - Bob Staton formally announced hiscandidacy for state superintendent of education at Lexington Middle School Wednesday.The outgoing chairman of the state's school reform panel says he wants to restructure the Education Department to focus on key transition periods in student development. Staton also says the department should treat students like a business would treat its customers.Staton said his objectives as education chief would include refocusing the department's goals for children and recruiting and retaining quality teachers.Staton will face at least four other Republicans in a June primary.
